Police say a raid at a Perth house last week uncovered the largest quantity of date-rape drug GHB ever seized in Western Australia. They say the 1.6 litres of the designer drug, also known as fantasy, was destined for New Year's Eve celebrations in Northbridge. A 34-year-old man has been charged over the Duncraig haul and is due to appear in court later this month. Senior Sergeant Paul McMurtrie says the seizure may have prevented sexual assaults and even deaths over the festive season. "In quantities of up to four millilitres, it can anaesthetise people and render them unconscious and in quantities of up to eight mils and more, can actually cause a person's death," he said. He says police estimate there was enough of the drug for about 800 individual doses.

The Guardian Angels hope a little information will go a long way towards catching a criminal. You can't miss them in their bright red berets and jackets. When the Guardian Angels come to town, they want to be noticed."We are highly visible. That's our biggest thing, we try to be a visual deterrent," said Khaelean, a Guardian Angel from the Minneapolis chapter. Each member uses a pseudonym while on patrol. Man charged in Cape Girardeau rape case after DNA testing

For the second time, Missouri's program of testing the DNA of all convicted felons has led to new charges in a Cape Girardeau County rape case, Prosecuting Attorney Morley Swingle announced Saturday. Samuel C. Taylor, 28, faces charges of rape and robbery in the March 12, 2004, attack on a woman on South Frederick Street. In the attack, a 58-year-old woman was approached at about 1:30 a.m. by a man who offered to sell her drugs, Swingle said in a prepared statement. After declining the offer, the woman told police she was struck from behind and beaten unconscious, Swingle said. When she awoke, her jaw was broken in two places, she had injuries to her face, ankle and neck and her purse and panties were missing, Swingle said. No suspects were charged until the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported that Taylor's DNA, collected following his 2006 conviction on felony charges of failing to pay child support, matched sperm found on the victim's clothes, Swingle said.

Highlighting this difference, the Supreme Court has said that a man who is caught preparing to rape a woman cannot be charged under section 376 of the IPC, which provides for a minimum punishment of seven years in prison. He also cannot be charged with attempted rape under section 511 of IPC, which deals with attempts to commit offences, like murder, that carry a minimum penalty of life in prison. Converting the charge against Tarkeshwar Sahu, a Jharkhand resident, from rape to outraging the modesty of a 12-year-old girl, Justice SB Sinha and Justice Dalveer Bhandari held him guilty of kidnapping her and violating her modesty.

One of the other men charged in the assault, Anthony Freda of Brookfield, is expected to make an appearance in Dane County Circuit Court today. Marcus Bonner of Milwaukee was in court yesterday. Bruce Sterling, a former medical technician at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, was convicted in Superior Court, New Brunswick, on a total of 12 charges in connection with sexually assaulting and kidnapping a woman on Ray Street, New Brunswick, on June 9, 2003, and raping and kidnapping another woman in the Riverview Apartments in Edison on Jan. 18, 2005. He was also convicted of burglary stemming from an incident at Oak Leaf Village Apartments in North Brunswick on May 27, 2005. Sterling was arrested following the attempted burglary.
