Marine rapist jailed for 40 years

MANILA An American Marine has been sentenced to 40 years in prison for rape in a case hailed as a victory for women’s rights and Philippines independence from its former colonial power. Three other Marines were acquitted of complicity after a long trial that resurrected controversies about the American military presence in the country.
