Rapist used drug for stress

A GANG rapist yesterday said he was smoking up to 70 pipes of the lethal party drug ice every day in the months leading up to his attack on a teenage girl. In a bid to reduce his sentence, Canan Eken detailed his heavy use of crystal methamphetamine - a drug recently condemned by Police Commissioner Ken Moroney as a scourge worse than heroin. For Eken, defence counsel Geoffrey Nicholson QC claimed the 28-year-old underwent a "psychotic episode'' on the night of the sex attack brought on by his drug abuse and family history of mental illness. Eken yesterday said he was using g of ice daily for six months before he forced a 17-year-old girl to perform sex acts on his two flatmates at Rosebery on July 30, 2004. He "constantly'' smoked between 40 and 70 pipes of the drug each day.
