Police: Man killed intern after 'date-rape' drug failed

GLEN MILLS, Pa. A sales manager at an electronics firm is facing second- and third-degree murder charges after authorities say he strangled a company intern who spurned his sexual advances. William Smithson also is charged with criminal attempted rape, abuse of a corpse and other counts. Police say he slipped the drug G-H-B -- also called "the date rape drug" -- into Jason Shephard's drink during dinner on September 18th. Shephard was interning with a Brookings, South Dakota company. He'd been visiting the company's Pennsylvania offices. Smithson, a sales manager at the office, confided in a former lover who works in law enforcement in Virginia that he had come on to the man, who in turn "started to physically fight his advances." The former lover drove up to Pennsylvania Tuesday and saw what he suspected was a body in Smithson's bedroom.
