Ex-Scorpion testfies in 'rape' trial

A former Scorpions investigator, who once led the investigation of Schabir Shaik, testified in the Pretoria regional court on Wednesday in the trial of a Namibian who allegedly tried to rape her. The accused is Ismail Ashipembe, the grandson of an employee at the Namibian High Commission. The former Scorpion's testimony was given in camera on Wednesday. It is alleged that in 2004 Ashipembe attacked and tried to rape her, and robbed her flat in Arcadia. Ashipembe faces 67 charges, which included breaking into the woman's home. It is alleged that after trying to strangle and suffocate her, he tried to rape her. He is also accused of stealing five signed cheques and her bank card and withdrawing R60 000 from her account over four months. .
