Former priest in date-rape drug case to live in rectory

PEORIA, ILL. (AP) -- A former Roman Catholic priest who allowed a date-rape drug to be made in a church rectory is moving into the rectory of St. Patrick Catholic Church near Peoria. The pastor of St. Patrick's in Washington said the parish will help Jeffrey Windy make the transition back into society. Windy was arrested in January 2002 for allowing GHB to be produced in a church rectory. GHB is a muscle-enhancing steroid also known as the so-called "date-rape drug." Windy was sentenced to five years and 10 months following his conviction. He is now out of prison but remains under the authority of the U.S. Bureau of Prisons until December 14. The diocese has removed Windy from "all priestly assignments and activities." He may no longer wear clerical garb and can't refer to himself as "Father" or "Reverend."
