Trial date scheduled for student charged with rape

A trial date has been set for Thomas P. Schlichting, an 18-year-old Davenport man accused of forcing a 17-year-old classmate to have sex with him while at Davenport Assumption High School. Schlichting faces a 10-year in prison sentence if convicted of felony third-degree sexual abuse charges in the trial, slated to begin at 9 a.m. Aug. 7. In April, Schlichting allegedly led a female student into a vacant classroom at Assumption and attempted to have sex with her, according to court documents. The victim told him, "No, stop." He then pulled her shorts open and down past her knees, breaking a button off the clothing in the process, and forced intercourse with the victim, the affidavit said. Following the incident, the suspect was placed on out-of-school suspension.
