Seven-year jail for Pushkar rape accused
JAIPUR: A fast track court in Ajmer on Thursday sentenced a 22-year-old owner of a guest house in Pushkar, a popular tourist destination in Rajasthan, to seven years' rigorous imprisonment for raping a Japanese woman during her visit to the town in April this year. The mother and brother of the convict, Babloo, were also sentenced to three years' imprisonment for helping in the crime and fined Rs. 2,000 each. The court also imposed a fine of Rs. 5,000 on Babloo, while acquitting another of his brothers and a friend. The Japanese tourist had accused Babloo of raping her and robbing her of Rs. 54,000 on April 2 after intoxicating her with "bhang" (hemp). She said Babloo duped her into giving him the cash she was carrying by suggesting that Pushkar was not safe for tourists. The woman left Pushkar in a state of shock and faxed her complaint to the Superintendent of Ajmer Police on April 18 after reaching Agra.
