'Riverdance' Star Sues Rape Accuser
(andPOP) - Michael Flatley, the former star of once-popular dance sensation "Riverdance," is suing a woman who claims he raped her in Las Vegas. The BBC reports that Flatley is now able to bring the suit after the California state Supreme Court ruled his civil case was lawful. The woman's lawyers had argued that the case infringed on her right to free speech. "Celebrities are so frequently targeted with claims that they've committed some kind of misconduct, usually of a sexual nature," said Flatley's lawyer, Bert Fields. "Because of the Supreme Court ruling, we can make these people go to trial and prove our case." The woman, whose claim dates back to 2002, did not seek criminal charges. Her $35 million US civil claim against Flatley was dismissed earlier this year. Flatley is now seeking $100 million for extortion and defamation.
