Parties, parties, parties - Beware of date rape drugs
THE PARTY season will be in full swing by this weekend. Absolute Temptation Isle kicks off, followed by Appleton Treasure Island and shortly thereafter, Reggae Sunsplash. However, with all the revelling, young partygoers should be careful when drinking because of dangerous substances such as 'date rape drugs'. The term 'date rape drug' usually applies to Rohypnol tablets. Medically and appropriately, the drug is used in the short term in the treatment of insomnia. But in recent years, rapists have been using the drug at parties on potential victims. Technically, any substance that renders one incapable of saying no or asserting one's self, needs or feelings, is considered a date rape drug. Other dangerous substances include alcohol, marijuana or street drugs like Ecstasy, over-the-counter sleeping pills and antihistamines.
