Elk River police chief asks for help in rapist search
Police in the northwestern metro hope you can help them track down a rapist. Investigators say the suspect broke into a woman's home in Elk River early Sunday morning, sexually assaulted her at knife point and then he tried to break into the same home early Monday morning. It's the type of random stranger-on-stranger crime that virtually never happens in the outer ring suburbs, says Chief Jeffrey Beahen. "So to have this type of vicious assault occur for our city is very rare. I think accompanied with that fact is the suspect returned the following morning." Chief Beahen says it happened in a sprawling middle class neighborhood near 194th Avenue and Meadowvale Road. The suspect forced his way through a locked patio door, and attacked a 38-year-old woman as she slept alone in her bedroom.
