Accused Rapist Defends His Innocence
Brian Stepp is an inmate at the Butler County Jail Friday night after investigators tracked him down in England and brought him back into custody Thursday. He says he knows that running from the law makes him look guilty, but he says he's not. He says he left the county just before his trial because he was scared. It took months for police to track him down in Cambridge, England by tracking money wires and phone calls. It was a beat officer who finally got him and used our website, WCPO.com to verify they had the right man. But then, Stepp fought his extradition to the US for two years. He says he wanted to come back but attorneys in the UK advised him to use every appeal possible. Stepp is accused of impersonating a police officer, then picking up several women in the area of East Avenue in Hamilton, handcuffing them and raping them in a remote area.
