Yachtsman charged with rape
A MAN accused of luring women to a yacht where he drugged and raped them has been extradited from South Australia to face court in Queensland. Police said they received complaints from several women who had answered newspaper advertisements between 1987 and 2000 seeking a nanny for an extended sea voyage aboard a yacht moored at a marina in Southport on the Gold Coast. Detective Superintendent Ross Barnett said the women had reported becoming disoriented after being given drinks by the man who owned the yacht. "A further complaint was received with similar circumstances on the Sunshine Coast in 1987," Det Supt Barnett said today. The man allegedly left the Gold Coast amid publicity surrounding his alleged activities and avoided detection until Monday this week when he was arrested on board a yacht in Port Lincoln, in South Australia, after Queensland police issued three arrest warrants for rape.
