Judge: Ayer man a danger to children Accused rapist will remain ...
AYER -- An Ayer man accused of attempting to rape a teenage boy will remain jailed after the judge determined he would likely try to harm other children if released. "I don't understand why the probation department didn't move earlier to arrest him," Judge Peter Kilmartin said of George K. Mackie III, who allegedly assaulted an 18-year-old boy while on probation for abusing the victim's cousin. Mackie, 44, of 18 Foster St., listened as Townsend police Officer Jeffrey Thibodeau testified in Ayer District Court yesterday during Mackie's dangerousness hearing. Mackie, a former foster parent, was arrested May 28 in Lunenburg and has been held without bail. According to Thibodeau, Mackie gave alcohol to the victim, his cousin and the cousin's girlfriend, who were all staying at a Pearl Hill State Park campground in Townsend before the alleged assault took place.
