Seven-year jail for rapist of minor girl

Sambalpur (Orissa) - A fast-track court in Orissa Friday sentenced a 58-year-old man to seven years of rigorous imprisonment for raping a minor in one of the fastest convictions for such a crime, police officials here said. Additional district sessions judge Anil Kumar Patnaik in Jharsuguda, 374 km from state capital Bhubaneswar, awarded the sentence to Trinath Bhoi, a resident of Jharsuguda town who allegedly raped a minor girl on April 9. The judge also imposed a fine of Rs.5,000, a senior district police official told IANS. .
