Repeat rapist on the loose
The possibility that a "repeat rapist" is at large in Saskatoon has prompted city police to warn women to be extremely cautious when walking alone. Women who walk or jog in secluded areas are also being urged to use caution, and to go with a partner, if possible. But the executive director of the Saskatoon Sexual Assault and Information Centre is cautioning against ringing any alarm bells. "We cannot be injecting fear into the female population," Elizabeth Freire said Tuesday. "It's a very dangerous line to say that we shouldn't go out alone. We have to have the freedom to go out and feel that it is OK to do so." In the past five months, a suspect has approached two -- and possibly three -- women, trying to engage them in conversation before turning violent and viciously assaulting them by hitting, groping and forcing intercourse.
