Class scheduled for examiners of victims of rape
LANCASTER - The Antelope Valley Hospital Sexual Assault Response Team Center will present a course for medical professionals to learn how to become sexual assault forensic examiners for adults or adolescents. The 40-hour course June 26-30 is for people who are physicians, nurse practitioners, registered nurses or physician assistants. "This course is designed for individuals who are interested in developing their skills as interdisciplinary team members for adult and adolescent victims of sexual assault," explained Mary Reina, the center director. "By providing the training that nurses, doctors and other health care professionals need, we hope to be able to better prosecute sexual offenders with solid forensic evidence." Upon completion of the course (and after a preceptorship), the examiner will be able to assess, document, examine, photograph and properly collect evidence from the patient.
